Our quality thrift stores are the ‘life-blood’ of Faith Mission and Help Center. All revenue from the Higgins Resale stores goes toward serving those in need throughout the Washington County community, and providing financial solvency for the Faith Mission organization.
What you will find at Higgins Resale Shops:
The Higgins Resale Shops feature high-quality and brand-name clothing and household items. Savvy shoppers find seasonal clothing and trending items at a fraction of the original retail price. Families will find gently used strollers, baby items, toys, and bikes for their children. The kitchen connoisseur will find high quality small appliances, mixing and serving pieces, as well as beautiful table settings and flatware.
“We only sell items that are in good condition, and are trending in the season,” says store manager Susan Lemel.” Although we accept and process literally hundreds of thousands of pounds of donations each year, only the best items make it to our shelves. This makes shopping at Higgins a pleasurable experience, instead of a dumpster dive!”
How can I donate to Higgins Resale?
Donations are accepted at the back dock of the original Higgins North at 550 E. Blue Bell Rd, or Faith Mission can arrange for pick-up of your items if prearranged and approved. Please do not take donations to Higgins South. Furniture should be dropped at the Furniture Warehouse at 314 E. Alamo St. during business hours only, please. For pick-up options, please fill out the Online Donation Form and you will be contacted within the week.
Higgins is unable to accept paint cans, trash, CRT-type TVs, or non-working refrigerators, freezers, or window air-conditioners. Furniture that is torn, broken, or stained cannot be accepted. Mattresses and other bedding must be without stains or tears, and must be inspected before it can be accepted for donation.
We glady accept vehicles, trailers, boats, ATV’s, RV’s, lawn mowers and powered lawn equipment. To donate large items or vehicles that are required to be titled by the State of Texas, please fill out our Online Vehicle Donation Form.
What becomes of all the other donation items?
“What many in the community may not realize,” says Susan, “is that our employees and volunteers sort through 100% of the donated items, and either resell, recycle or redistribute them. We actually provide the manpower that ships gently used items to third world countries in partnership with Rotary International. So, when you donate to Higgins South, you will either provide clothing, bedding, or household items to a local family in need, or you will be providing those items for a family in need in another country. Your donations are greatly appreciated, and we are dedicated to being good stewards of all of your donated items.”
What does the money generated from the thrift-store pay for?
The money generated from Higgins South and Higgins North resale shops goes to Faith Mission and Help Center to provide emergency services and for the purpose of creating paths to self-sufficiency for those in need throughout Washington County. The funds are used for the following:
- Provide emergency food, clothing and shelter for those in need.
- Support training classes and scholarships toward higher education for our clients.
- Create and support jobs on campus.
- Enable Faith Mission to operate as a self-sustaining organization.
